The Mil Mi-24 is a large helicopter that serves as a troop-carrying gunship and attack helicopter, produced by the Moscow Mil Helicopter Factory since the early 1970s. Variants include the export versions Mi-25 and Mi-35. Since 1972, it has been used by the Soviet Air Force, its successors, and approximately fifty other nations. Soviet pilots nicknamed this helicopter the "flying tank." It has also been called "Crocodile" due to its new camouflage design, and "Stakan" ("Glass Glass") because of the large flat glass windows surrounding the three-seat cockpit of the original Mi-24 model.
