The Mikoyan MiG-35 is a Russian multirole fighter designed by Mikoyan, a division of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC). Marketed as a 4++ generation jet fighter, it is an advanced development of the MiG-29M/M2 and MiG-29K/KUB fighters. According to a Russian defense industry source, the MiG-35 is essentially an upgraded version of the MiG-29KR. Many consider the MiG-35 to be a new name used by Mikoyan for marketing purposes. The first prototype was a modification of a previous MiG-29M2 demonstrator aircraft, temporarily named MiG-35, but a later prototype was a different model with different equipment, forming the basis of the current MiG-35. Mikoyan officially introduced the MiG-35 internationally at the 2017 Moscow air show; the first two serial units entered service in 2019. The aircraft was primarily built for export, but the company did not secure significant foreign buyers or domestic orders. Currently, military experts view the aircraft as a failure, marking the end of the MiG brand as a frontline fighter designer.
