In the 1960s, the Soviet Navy began developing a type of border patrol boat based on the Project 205 Osa class ships. Key modifications included replacing missile armament with torpedoes and equipping the vessels with anti-submarine warfare gear. Plans also aimed to enhance crew comfort by enlarging cabins and upgrading the air conditioning system. These boats were designated Project 205P Stenka. The first vessel was launched in 1967, and a total of 137 units were built. Over the years, the torpedo armament was removed. Russia used Project 205P boats as part of its coast guard until 2017.
