Roadside Mowing transforms every patch of unkempt grass on your map into a source of income! No contracts to accept, no menus to open — just start mowing and watch the money roll in. Perfect for roleplaying 'start from scratch' by creating a recurring growth cycle without breaking immersion through the construction menu. HOW IT WORKS Any time a mower or mulcher engages with grass outside of registered fields (such as NPC yards, roadsides, shoulders, ditches, wild meadows, gas station lots, or behind rail bridges — basically anywhere that isn’t a real field), you earn $3.50 per square meter as the grass is cut. Earnings accumulate and are paid out as a single deposit approximately every 30 seconds, keeping notifications manageable. Mowers leave a real windrow on the cut grass, allowing your forage wagon or baler to pick it up afterward. Pay for the cut, then bale or chop the grass for hay or silage. The roadside meadow yield is scaled to about half of a true grass crop rate, and sparse decorative cuts produce a thinner windrow, ensuring your forage wagon always has a continuous supply. MEADOW REGROWTH — three modes, default hotkey: Alt+M While in the mower (with the cutting implement selected), pressing Alt+M cycles through three meadow modes (the current mode flashes on screen): – REGROW (default) — When you cut decorative roadside grass, the strip is replanted as proper hayable meadow. Over several growth cycles, neglected shoulders turn into renewable hayfields. This mode accurately replaces decorative foliage with meadow grass, with minimal anomalies that can be cleared using the 'Remove' mode. Even if it appears not to leave meadow grass immediately, it will grow in the next cycle. (Use a mod like 'Grow Now' to see this happen faster.) – OFF — Mow normally without regrowth. Use this when you want to clear a strip without future regrowth. If the grass was decorative, it leaves a flat terrain texture; if it was meadow grass, it regrows normally. – REMOVE — Roleplay brush clearing: mow as usual and uproot any existing meadow growth, leaving bare ground. Ideal for landscaping or preparing ground for construction. Allows grass removal without entering construction mode. BUILT-IN PROTECTIONS – NPC fields are protected: if your work encroaches on a neighbor’s crop, cutting and damage are automatically skipped, preventing accidental damage. – Cattails and reeds along ponds are not mowable; the implement ignores them, preserving the natural look of pond edges. – Your own fields process exactly like vanilla: regular yields, no double payments, and no roadside paint applied to hayfields. QUALITY OF LIFE – Mowers, mulchers, forage wagons, and balers can operate off-field without triggering access warnings. The bypass only applies off-field; entering NPC crops still triggers access checks. – Compatible with any base-game mower, mulcher, forage wagon, or baler. No special implement needed. Ensure the correct mode is selected (Alt+M) with the cutting implement active, not the forage wagon. COMPATIBILITY NOTE! The meadow regrowth feature (REGROW mode) is not compatible with RealMower, as RealMower clears decorative grass before this mod’s regrowth code can sample it, leaving nothing to seed. All other features (pay, windrow drops, off-field access, NPC/waterPlants protection) work fine alongside RealMower. The mod detects RealMower on load and displays a one-time message explaining this. Requirements – No mod dependencies. – Single player recommended (multiplayer supported but lightly tested). – PC only. Tested with no errors or warnings.
