The new Axial-Flow combines from International Harvester revolutionized harvesting when they debuted in 1977, featuring an efficient threshing rotor mounted on its Axis. This innovative threshing method improves grain quality and reduces damage, thanks to the fast, vigorous grain beating in a conventional combine. It also offers exceptional separation through the Axial-Flow technique. Gone are the days of straw walkers simply moving the crop out; with the rotor, separation is thorough and aided by centrifugal force. You'll find that these new Axial-Flow combines help you harvest more of what you grow. How does an Axial-Flow combine work? The crop is fed through the feeder house, where the rotor impeller gathers it and begins moving it rearward in a spiral. The rasp bars on the rotor ring rotate and thrash the crop against the concave repeatedly. The crop then continues in its spiral to the separating grate, where centrifugal force ensures optimal separation. A bed of augers beneath the rotor carries the grain to a traditional cleaning system with two sieves, where air blasts blow out chaff and fines, pushing them out the back of the combine via spreaders. The clean grain falls through the sieves into the bottom grain pan, where an auger and elevator transport it to the grain tank.
