The tractor was developed at the Polish-Czechoslovak Research and Development Center for Tractors in Brno, then produced at the ZM Ursus plant in Poland from 1984 to 2009. A total of 4,857 units were manufactured. Many of these tractors are still operational on Polish farms and in smaller numbers across various other countries.
