In the mid-60s, forage harvesters did not support continuous operation when switching vehicles, which was inconvenient at higher speeds. In 1968, VISKHOM, in collaboration with the Gomselmash plant, developed the new KSS-2.6 combine by upgrading the KS-2.6 model. The working width remained the same, but the strength and power of the header and chopping apparatus were increased, allowing the operating speed to rise from 5 km/h to 12 km/h, and productivity from 40-50 t/h to 80-90 t/h.
