The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. It gives its name to its class, which is primarily composed of three aircraft carriers: the Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78), the John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), and the Enterprise (CVN-80). It was named in honor of the 38th President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford. The ship was laid down on November 13, 2009, at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in a ceremony attended by Susan Ford Bales, daughter of Gerald R. Ford, and was launched on November 9, 2013. Its construction was commissioned to replace the USS Enterprise (CVN-65), although the latter was decommissioned before the USS Gerald R. Ford was launched.
